Leadership

Follow the leader - what does being a leader mean?

Do you ever feel like you spend your whole life doing what other people say? From parents to teachers, some days it feels like everybody else is the boss of you. But it’s tough being in charge. Being a leader means making hard decisions for the good of your citizens and never getting the chance to put yourself first. Our leaders work long days and never get to take time off from running the country.

Who are the UAE’s leaders?

Because the United Arab Emirates is made up of seven Emirates, we have seven leaders! Each Emirate has its own Sheikh:

Dubai – Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Abu Dhabi – Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Ras Al Khaimah – Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al-Qasimi

Sharjah – Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi

Fujairah – Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi

Umm Al Quwain – Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla

Ajman – Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi

Together these also wise men rule the United Arab Emirates, working together to make sure they can do the best for everyone.

What values do you need to be a good leader?

Being a good leader is about being a good listener. The leaders of the United Arab Emirates are always looking for ideas about how to make the country happier. Good leaders are innovative, always looking for ways to make things better, quicker or more efficient. The UAE’s push towards smart government is one example of good leadership. Launching the Mobile Government initiative means our government and transport departments will work non-stop 24/7 and provide better services to make people happier. Just like being a good leader!

They need you

The UAE is one of the few countries in the world that actually asks the people who live there to tell them how they think or feel. There are loads of different ways you can tell them what’s making you happy or share ideas about how to do things better. Each Emirate has its own social media presence and there are helplines and government portals to leave your opinions on as well. While they might not agree with your suggestions, our leadership will definitely read and consider them. Don’t you wished your parents listened to you like that?
